On 24 June, BB Research welcomed representatives of the Institute of International Maritime Affairs at Korea Maritime and Ocean University to Pyramiden, the northernmost Russian settlement on the Svalbard archipelago.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to support cooperation in Arctic research, joint scientific initiatives, academic events and wider international exchange.
The agreement was formally concluded between Arcticugol, the organisation supporting the development of BB Research on Svalbard, and the Institute of International Maritime Affairs at Korea Maritime and Ocean University in Busan, Republic of Korea.
The memorandum marks another step in the development of BB Research as an international platform connecting researchers, universities and partner institutions in the Arctic. Pyramiden is becoming one of the centre’s key locations for field research, educational activities and international collaboration.
The visit of the South Korean delegation was organised with the support of HSE University and the Northern Forum Academy.
The memorandum was signed by Ildar Neverov, Director General of Arcticugol, and representatives of the Institute of International Maritime Affairs. The ceremony was also attended by Andrey Chemerilo, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Svalbard, and Anastasia Deyko, Secretary of BB Research.
Following the ceremony, representatives of Korea Maritime and Ocean University left a commemorative message in Pyramiden’s guest book.
